UPDATE 8.55AM: The broken down truck on Hewlwetts Road has now been cleared.

Traffic delays were reported earlier this morning, following a truck and trailer unit breaking down just before Tasman Quay.

It's now being reported that the mechanic has been able to get the truck mobile again and the lane is open.

"Traffic is starting to flow again and hopefully it won’t take too long to clear the backlog of traffic," says a Taurnaga City Council spokesperson.

Meanwhile, emergency services are responding to a multiple vehicle crash on Taikitimu Drive.

Four vehicles are reported to have crash near Chapel Street. Read more here.

EARLIER:

Traffic delays are being reported in Mount Maunanui this morning, following reports of a broken down truck and trailer unit.

SunLive has received reports that the truck has broken down on Hewletts Road, just prior to Tasman Quay.

"The truck is blocking one lane and is causing significant congestion and Mount bound traffic is almost backed up to the Elizabeth Street roundabout on the Takitimu Expressway," says a witness.

"Traffic heading into the Mount will experience delays."

People are advised to use an alternative route if possible.
