A severe weather watch is being issued for the Bay of Plenty today.
The MetService is forecasting heavy rain for the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
"A trough is forecast to move southeast across the North Island today, preceded by a moist northeast flow and rain, then followed by unsettled northwesterlies delivering showers and possible thunderstorms across parts of the upper North Island," says a statement from the weather organisation.
"The most rainfall is expected about eastern Bay of Plenty where a Heavy Rain Watch remains in force.
"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts."

Valid: 10 hours from 8am to 6pm Monday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria during this time.
