Waihi Golf report for November 25 2021

Veterans' golf

The 53 players in the field on Monday November 22 were plagued with thick drizzle for about four holes, and thereafter skies cleared enough to dry everyone out before it started again later on.

All but five people put up with it, and carried on with the day's putting competition and stableford haggle. Stableford results: Gary Dunlop 39 points; Anke Hermannsdorfer 38; Brian Robinson 37; Richard Culleton 36; Gerry Tompkins, Jock Stronach, Ray Berghan, Rae Brown 35; Rae Wright, John Drent, Peter Hewitt, Vivienne Lilley, Wendy Matutinovich 34; Gyan Prole, Willie Lynch, Kerry Lewis 33; Ros Fitness, Howard Anderson, Liz Purcell, Brian Baynes, Al McMillan, Jenney Tubman 32; Michael Bonnici, Jim Evans, Peter Wright, 31; Mavis Bruce, Errol Millar 30. Wendy Matutinovich had the best putting score with only 28 putts over the 18 holes.

It was the last day's play at Waihi for long-time member Gerry Tompkins who with his wife Mary is leaving the district, and heading for a new life in Auckland. It is hard to say goodbye to such a cheerful member, and he will be missed.

Coromandel Shield - well, there is some good news after the team (Tim Parish, Allen Sarjant, Alex Teesdale, Ken Purcell, Peter Robertson, Maurice Joyce) played at Te Aroha on Monday November 22.

Hauraki was knocked off its perch to fifth place, and it was Paeroa's turn to crow, and although they weren't last, with two more rounds to play, there is still hope that Waihi will sing in the choir and bring home some bacon at Paeroa on Monday, November 29. (Unlike other sporting bodies, there will be no muttering about replacing the Selector).

Women's golf - 18 holes

There were not many at golf on Wednesday November 24, and the weather must have been perfect for those who were lucky enough to play the third round in the Summer Cup.

Nett results: Rae Wright, Susan Mustard 71; Vivienne Lilley 73; Heather Watters 74; Jill Morrison, Kay Marshall 76; Karen Lee, Wendy Matutinovich, Liz Purcell, Carol Leary 77; Dot Ramsey 78; Denise McConnon, Jenny Gallaugher 79 .

AGM

There was a very good attendance at the Club's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday November 24, and a new Management Committee was elected - President: Daryll Denyer. Vice President: Karen Roche. Committee: Terry Gerbich, John Giffney, Wendy Matutinovich, Mike Rose.

-Nan Hoggard.
