9.25pm Update: Sandhurst Drive in Papamoa is now clear and open again following an earlier incident.

"The matter's been resolved," says a Police spokesperson.

Emergency services responded to an earlier incident.

Motorists were asked to take a different route from State Highway 2 and avoid Sandhurst Drive.

The situation has now been safely resolved.

Earlier 9.03pm: Motorists have been asked to avoid State Highway 2 in Papamoa on Sunday evening.

"Drivers are asked to avoid SH2 at Sandhurst Drive, Papamoa, while emergency services attend an incident," says a Police spokesperson.

Sandhurst Drive is now blocked, but the Tauranga Eastern Link is open.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

It is unknown at this stage what the nature of the incident is. SunLive will follow up once more information is available.
