One person is dead and three other people have been taken to hospital following a crash with a power line.

Police confirmed the fatality in a statement this morning.

Police were notified of the crash, on Saulbrey Road, Ngāruawāhia, in the Waikato, where a vehicle collided with a power line just before 8pm, says a police spokesperson.

"Sadly, one person died at scene at the scene.

"The other three occupants were transported to hospital with serious, moderate, and minor injuries, respectively.

"The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and the investigation into the crash is ongoing."
