Recent storm leaves sunken boat at Tanners Point

A salvage of a boat that sunk near Tanners Point during the recent storm is underway.

"Our Harbourmaster Team are currently working with the owner of this boat to salvage it from Tanners Point," says a Bay of Plenty Regional Council spokesperson.

"The boat sunk during the recent spell of bad weather we experienced."

A photo of the sunken boat was been posted to the Tanners Point Residents Facebook page on Saturday.

"If that's your yacht and you're unaware of it…," says the post. "Harbour Master informed to minimise environmental impact of oil and fuel leakage."
Although the incident was reported four days ago, the boat is still submerged in the water, and the harbourmaster is working with the owner to salvage it.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council website has a page outlining how to report boating incidents here and an online reporting accident/incident form is available.
"You must also provide a written report within 48 hours," says a BOPRC spokesperson. "You can complete the online form here, or download and fill in the 'Accident/ incident report' PDF from 'Useful downloads' below, and email to maritime@boprc.govt.nz
