Power out after crash in Lower Kaimai

Powerco estimates power should be back on in the area around 6.15pm.

Power is out in the Lower Kaimai after a car has crashed into a power pole.

According to the Powerco website, about 70 properties have been affected by the outage.

The website states that a site investigation is underway into the cause of the outage.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a car has hit a power pole on Poripori Road, near the intersection of State Highway 29.

"Police are at the scene and power lines are down."

People are urged to avoid the area as the caller says the lines are down on the road.

A police spokesperson says police is responding to a report of a car crashing into a pwoer pole on Poripori Road.

"We were called shortly after 2pm.

"The driver has minor injuries, however the pole and lines are down on the road.

"The lines company has been advised."
