The Bay of Plenty Steamers are preparing to take on Auckland in round three of the Bunnings Warehouse NPC this weekend.

The two teams will go head-to-head at Eden Park on Sunday.

The Steamers will then return home to play at the Tauranga Domain, when they take on Counties Manukau on Sunday, August 28.

Bay of Plenty Rugby community engagements and relationships manager Neil Alton says they are doing everything they can to make sure the home games are a great experience for everyone.

SunLive approached Neil recently following concerns from members of the public about the damaged scoreboard at Tauranga Domain and an increase in ticket prices.

Neil says the scoreboard belongs to the Tauranga Sports Rugby Club and they are working on a solution to replace the current scoreboard which isn't working to a suitable standard.

'While the score is on the big screen, we realise this can't be seen from all areas of the venue.

'So for the remaining four home games, the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union will be bringing in a temporary digital scoreboard to replace the broken scoreboard and clock so that our fans can be kept up to date with the score and the time left to play.”

Regarding ticket price, Neil says BOPR has held ticket prices to $20 for adults for at least 10 years and the time had finally come for them to increase to $25 after price increases from contractors to run the event.

'We are pleased to have not increased our child and youth prices when tickets are purchased on-line, as we want to make our events as accessible as possible to young people.

'BOPR prides itself on running quality and safe events for our community and we often are praised by public, our partners and other provinces that Tauranga Domain is ideal for hosting NPC and FPC games due to its intimate setting and location to bars and restaurants.

'We also provide local food trucks free space to sell their awesome cuisine which we think is pretty unique considering feedback on stadium food at other venues.

'Overall, we think the price provides really good value to our patrons, particularly when the Volcanix and Steamers are playing such great rugby.”
