A former high-ranking police officer has appeared in court on theft charges.
The 70-year-old Waikato man appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Tuesday, facing six charges of theft.
Police charging documents allege the offending happened between November 2015 and February 2019, and involve a combined quantum of $136,155.59.
The man, who was self-represented, entered no plea to the charges.
He asked for and was granted interim name suppression until his next appearance, which will be on October 31.
It is a condition of his bail that he not associate with the victims of his alleged offending.
