Police have released the name of a person who died after a car ploughed into Bay of Plenty lake last month.

Seventy-seven-year-old Antony Byrne Ansell of Lake Rotomā, Rotorua District died after the vehicle he was in crashed into Lake Rotomā on October 25.

"Our thoughts are with his friends and family," says a police spokesperson.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
