Intoxication & fights: 12 arrested at Whangamatā

Police are disappointed with behaviour including intoxication and fighting at a number of incidents that took place following an event in Whangamatā over the weekend.

"A vast majority of attendees at Beach Hop were well behaved however later in the evening Police were required to respond in incidents involving intoxicated participants," says a police spokesperson.

Twelve people were arrested for various street offences, including fighting in a public place and a large number of alcohol infringement notices were issued for breaches of the liquor ban.

Over the course of the weekend 13 drivers were caught behind the wheel with excess breath alcohol.

"This is unacceptable and disappointing for Police," says a police spokesperson.

"Waikato has seen its fair share of fatalities on the road over the course of this year and we know that intoxication increases the chance of causing harm on the road.

"As the holiday period approaches, this is a timely reminder for drivers to remember the responsibility they have on the road."

Police will continue to target drink drivers to keep our roads safe and encourage anyone who has been drinking to consider not only their safety, but that of other motorists too, and plan ahead by organising a sober driver.

Unfortunately they have been brought up on woke socialist rubbish that has given them the green light and all the excuses. They are out of control. And the Labour and Green response is give them the vote and a cup of hot milo. Interesting that we are on the road to zero for road toll yet Labour want us on the road to 70% school attendance. That says it all to me. Aspiring for 70% school attendance which in most countries would be a crisis in itself. This truely is becoming a third world country.

"This truly is becoming a third world country." It's actually worse than that: once this government establishes itself after the next election, it will be a third world 19th CENTURY country, based on Tikanga and the rule of unelected elites and nepotism. (Mahuta has already sowed the seeds for it...) People ARE starting to wake up and we are seeing more dissent, but the government response is to become more opaque and secretive in pursuing its goals. Your comment was excellent and I endorse it.
