A woman has died on Friday following a crash on Hawke’s Bay Expressway on Wednesday, August 14.

The vehicle crashed on the side of State Highway 2, near the Kennedy Road off-ramp, around 12pm on Wednesday.

"The driver and sole occupant was critically injured," says a police spokesperson.

"She was transported to Wellington Hospital, where she sadly died yesterday [Friday, August 16]."

Police say next-of-kin have been advised.
