The northbound lane of State Highway 2 between Papamoa and Te Puke is now open after being closed this morning to remove a logging trailer unit.
Police and InRoads closed the northbound lane of the highway in the vicinity of Poplar Lane from 9am.
A logging truck lost its trailer unit down a bank.
The northbound lane is closed.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says trailer unit became detached from the logging truck that was towing it.
Reports to SunLive are the trailer then travelled in front of oncoming traffic before rolling down the bank.
The road was closed from 9am to 12.30pm while the trailer was removed.
Anyone with information about the incident this morning is asked to contact Tauranga South Police on 07 577 8089 and speak with Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Why don't they leave the trailer where it is and recover it over a time frame which has minimal impact on traffic flows, cost to other innocent road users?

If there is one thing that scares me, it's a fully laden logging truck & trailer coming towards me doing 90kph on a left-hand bend/
