Bad weather but an amazing race

St Thomas More Catholic School's mood wasn't dampened last week by the rain as they won the Primary School Amazing Race Inter School Challenge.

The event has been running since 2010 and the school has only won the challenge once before in 2013.

Sarah Edwards, Zoe van der Pol, Caitlin Farrell, Brayden Stowers, Ben Parlane and Sam Scott, Team One won the Race with 42 points.

A total of 28 Year 5 and Year 6 teams took part and completed a number of challenges and activities around Memorial Park, they required good teamwork, skill, speed and accuracy.

'The heavens opened during the race, which added the ultimate kid fun factor.” says St Thomas More sports assistant Paula Farrell.

STM Team One were Sarah Edwards, Zoe van der Pol, Caitlin Farrell, Brayden Stowers, Ben Parlane and Sam Scott and weren't putt off by the rain.

They came second in the ‘Greatest Number of Words Challenge' where they were asked to form as many three or more lettered words from ‘Amazing Race'. They formed an impressive 33 words.

But STM Team One went on to win first place overall with a total of 42 points, just 6 points ahead of second place which went to Greenpark School.

STM Team Two Mia Thomas, Leilani Horan, Charlotte Byrnes, Michael Burke, Sam Orsler and Archie Glubb, finished in sixth place with 31 points overall.

St Thomas More Catholic School thanks Buddy Meyer and his team at Sport BOP, organisers of the event Quest4fun Ltd for a fun-filled morning and the parent helpers and transporters on the day.
