One person is believed to be seriously injured after a crash near Whakamarama overnight.

SunLive readers reported that State Highway 2, from Youngson Road to the Whakamarama shops, was closed for several hours.

Police closed down SH2 near Plummers Point after a serious crash last night. The highway is open this morning.

According to the NZTA, the highway was closed from about 9.30pm until 1am due to a crash.

The highway is open this morning.

Police have not released any information at this stage.
