Search continues for Joshua Kite

Police are still on the hunt for a man who allegedly shot at two unarmed officers in Northland four days ago.

It's hoped that released updated images of Joshua Kite, 33, will lead to any information about his current whereabouts.

Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says police are throwing everything at trying to locate Kite who is being treated as armed and dangerous.

'We do know Kite has extensive links across the North Island and we believe he may be trying to use those contacts to help him evade police.

'At this stage we are continuing to focus on the Northland and greater Auckland areas, and want to advise anyone who may be helping Kite, that assisting someone to evade police is a crime in itself,” says Kevin.

'We want to thank the community for their ongoing support and information provided to us in relation to the search for Kite.”

While police are advising people in Northland to go about their daily business as usual, they are still asking anyone who sees someone behaving suspiciously or fitting Kite's description, to contact Police on 111 immediately or anonymously to 0800 555 111.

'The two officers who were fired at by Kite on Friday are back at work and have been receiving ongoing support from colleagues,” says Kevin.

'As per our policy, frontline officers in Northland and greater Auckland are carrying firearms as a safety precaution while the investigation is ongoing. Staff from all four districts are still involved in the search for Kite.”
