Holiday traffic woes begin

UPDATED 4.35pm: NZTA says congestion has eased on State Highway 2 between Omokoroa Road and Bethlehem heading into the city.

Caution is still advised, however.

EARLIER: The holiday traffic woes have begun in Tauranga, with traffic coming into the city reportedly at a standstill.

A caller to the SunLive newsroom says traffic along State Highway 2 is gridlocked all the way to Omokoroa and beyond.

There are no reports as yet of any crashes or other incidents to have caused the delay. Rather, it looks as though people trying to beat the Christmas congestion have instead brought it forward.

Replacing a lamppost at Bethlehem

Yes, there was a lot of traffic backed up, I think the main problem was a road work just before Bethlehem where they were replacing a lamppost. At the Shell roundabout the traffic was flowing freely again.

Road works days before Christmas again

It appears that putting up a Street Light at this time of the year and slowing the traffic with cones is more important. The pole was noted to be laying on site for at least a month. Why don't contractors THINK first.

Bloody Aucklanders

Look at these Aucklanders clogging up our roads.

Nothing to do with the street light.

It's 4.30pm, and the traffic is still backed up. the street light was finished ages ago. It's all the Aucklanders!

Sorting out a lamppost which has been down for weeks. Work should have been done earlier, after Christmas or like they do in Britain quite often, during the night under floodlights when traffic is light. Come on, common sense please!!!

here we go again

Last week they were removing a aliminium pole over on that little side road opposite Ballance fert works, they had a safety truck parked in the left lane MT bound and the traffic was backed up to Elizabeth st round about, all those heavy trucks crawling along in the boiling sun, there was NO need for saftey truck to be there as they were working up side road, it is safety going overboard, my shillings worth,Thanks No1 ,10-4 out.
