Some minor flooding has caused the Tauranga Blood Donor Centre to close until at least next week.

The fire service was called this morning to deal with the water, which is believed to have been caused by a broken water filter connection.

Senior station officer Phil Price says it was a relatively minor event.

'We shut the water off and squeegeed out the building and wet-vacced it. It took us about three-quarters of an hour.”

He says the firefighters removed the worst of the water, but the Blood Service will need professional carpet cleaning people to come and lift the carpet, which will likely keep them shut for the remainder of the week.
