The traffic headaches continue for northbound motorists travelling on State Highway 2, with long lines of vehicles at a standstill either side of Katikati this afternoon.

The delays are being caused by two lots of pre-planned annual resealing works to the north and south of the town which are being carried out by the New Zealand Transport Agency.

The works will be continuing on Saturday and motorists can also expect delays on SH2 from 5am.

An NZTA spokesperson says the works are located in the Athenree Gorge by Mathers and Willoughby roads, and south of Katikati between Tetley and Hot Springs roads, and Thompsons Track and Walker Road.

'Summer is the best time to do resealing work because this is when the seal sticks to the road.

'Road users should plan their journey, abide by all speed signs and drive with extra care around the road workers.”

The work had been scheduled to take place in the early morning when traffic flows were light, adds the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, reports have come in this afternoon of up to 30-minute delays travelling between Maketu and Rangiuru, due to road works in the area.

Why don't they do it at night and stop all this nonsense of holding up the traffic and making everyone get frustrated in this hot weather
