Crash causes delays on SH36

UPDATED 8.02AM: No one has been injured after a car crashed at the bottom of a gully on State Highway 36, between Tauranga and Rotorua.

The single vehicle crash, initially reported as a three car crash, is on the bridge between Oropi Gorge Road and Williams Road.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says they received calls of the crash around 7.30am.

'The northbound lane is blocked. No one is injured.

'It's a reminder to other drivers that the roads across the Western Bay of Plenty are wet with the first rain after a dry spell and are likely to be particularly slippery.”

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a three car crash on Pyes Pa Road/State Highway 36.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says three vehicles have crashed near Williams Road.

The caller says the northbound lane is blocked.

It;s unlcear if anyone is injured and emergency services have been called to the scene.

Motorists travelling in this area are being asked to expect delays and drive carefully.
