Flames and smoke were seen billowing into the air when a car 'blew up” in Welcome Bay.

Firefighters were called to the fire on the Sunridge Estate just before 4.30pm.

Michelle Ross witnessed the event and says no one was in the car when it happened.

She says the car 'blew up” while parked down the road from where they live in Welcome Bay.

'The fire brigade turned up and put the flames out but it was completely gutted. No one is sure why it happened.

'It was a car of someone who was working in the area and luckily no one was in the car when it happened.”

Firefighters spent around an hour battle the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
