The search for a person believed to have been on a boat found overturned off the Tauranga Coast is expected to continue today.
A 5.6m fibreglass Sea Nymph, named Optimist, was found two nautical miles south of Mayor Island on Tuesday afternoon.
No-one was found with it.
Police suspended the search yesterday evening and are expected to be back out on the water at first light today.
'Police's inquiries have established that there was potentially one person on board the boat,” says a statement from police.
'Yesterday, there has been an extensive search both from sea and air by Police, Coastguard and private vessels and aircraft.”
Police say the search has been unsuccessful and will continue today.
'Police are working closely with the family of the person who may have been on board the boat and are offering them support.”
