New video shows just how close one Omokoroa resident was to losing their home completely.
Drone video footage shot by Cameron Avery and commissioned by SunLive shows the extent of a huge slip caused by the heavy rain from Cyclone Debbie's passage over the country last week.
The slip took out a large chunk of a McDonnell Street property and Western Bay of Plenty District Council reserve which it backed onto.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council communications manager Frank Begley says the part of Harbour View Road which was closed to vehicles last week due to the slips will be closed to pedestrians also due to the possibility of further slippage.
He's asking people to stay away from the area until more is known about the danger.
The McDonnell Street/Bramley Drive area in Omokoroa has been affected by slips in the past.
In 2011, a slip estimated at the time by a local to have been about 30 metres high and 200 metres wide came down on Bramley Drive, further up from McDonnell Street, following torrential rain in the area.

The rest of this will come down,there is tremendous weight with all those trees hanging there,(JUST MAYBE) have the drainage from gutters and such just been left to run over side of bank,to make it sodden,me tinks so,its all right people living therte, the COUNCIL will be out Tuesday,(maybe) with there flouro jackets and clipboards to have a look,,they wont do anything to help you as its to hard,they will look and go oh r oh r,and go back and have lunch,and another meeting to discuss this,and maybe get back to you at christmas,if not next year as it will take a lot of meetings to work something out,DONT HOLD YA BREATH,my thoughts only ,Sunlive this drone footage is awesome to see whats gone wrong,The BEST News in the Bay,Thankyou, 10-4 out.
Pohutakawa trees

Every slip has huge Pohutakawa trees,Huge trees!They have all ended up on the beach with the bank with them.These trees are not for this soil type.They are suited to the rocks at Coromandel.The trees are so big when it is windy they move so much and the pull on their root system is huge.I also need to comment on the bop councils engineers report!Good gosh he says its only small and not as bad as they look!What planet is he on?The only solution I can see is to trim these huge trees.also to answer golly gosh above.All the storm water and run offs was supposedly picked up by the council when we as rate payers paid and are still paying the cost of all the storm water and sewage .So I hold the council fully responsible for all these issues.
