Firearm used in Maungatapu robbery

UPDATED 8.42PM: Two men armed with a firearm attempted to hold-up a superette in Tauranga earlier this evening.

Police were called to reports of an armed robbery at the Lucky 7 Superette on Maungatapu Road around 6.40pm.

A police spokesperson says initial indications are that the two alleged offenders who entered the store were armed with a firearm.

"No one was injured in the incident and inquiries are on going."

People with information about the incident are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

EARLIER:

Police are investigating what is reported to be an attempted armed robbery in Maungatapu this evening.

It's understood police are at the scene of the crime and the offenders have fled on foot.

Police are speaking with the victims involved to get information about the incident.

A reporter at the scene says police were seen entering the liquor store on Maungatapu Road.

He says two men armed with a pistol have attempted to rob the store.

People with information about the crime are asked to contact their nearest police station.
