A 16 year old? armed? where the heck did they get the firearm from! i hope the Police get the other scum involved in this as well. Is this all these two brats had to do in the holidays? I feel so sorry for the people at the Maungatapu Dairy, it must have been a very frightening experience.

I feel sure that once the Youth Court has finished with him he won't be doing such things again.

Unfortunately there are very convincing replica guns, especially pistols, that are readily available, sold by gun dealers (yes, retail shops) in NZ. For example, the Glock 17 police use, when pointed at you, cannot be distinguished from the real thing at a distance of 3 or 4 metres. There is one "gun dealer" in particular who seems to always pop up in the media, presenting himself as an expert on firearms matters whenever there is an incident. He owns one of the biggest gun shops in the country and has criminal convictions on firearms and explosives offences, including in the USA where he was imprisoned for a time. Police are powerless to deal with him because we don't have the legislation. Pathetic!

If the dairy owners use any kind of weapon to defend themselves or their property, The police will charge them. Why? Because the police are powerless to do otherwise. They are bound by the law too. If you want to get into blame, whose fault is all of this? Members of parliament of course. They are the lawmakers, but the requisite intestinal fortitude is something MP's are not strong on.

Well then...

"Papamoaner" since you are so principled and have an opinion on everything rightly or wrongly, and also since you use this site to push those opinions..... climb down off your " soapbox" and do something about it!!!, or are you just another " puff of wind"?.

I love responses like yours. Two lines to say nothing. Soapboxing is exactly what these forums are for. Having an opinion on everything is infinitely smarter then having no opinion on anything. Here's a challenge for a new opportunity in life for you;- Instead of sniping at commentators, how about promulgating some views of your own? Start right here right now - let's hear your opinion on a 16 year old presenting a firearm (or replica) for a criminal act, and how he got the firearm. C'mon mate - money where your mouth is - YOUR MOVE!
