Sirens ring out in Tauranga

People have heard a siren, similar to air raid siren, this morning.

People are reporting hearing sirens in the Papamoa and Tauranga this morning.

The siren went off around 6.45am and could be heard in both Taurnaga and Papamoa areas.

People are reporting on Facebook that it sounds like it was coming from Papamoa Primary School or possibly the college.

"I'm trying to make out what the voice is saying. Sounds like fire at the end ...maybe fire alarm at Papamoa College," says one post.

"Just across from us in Parton, sounds like the primary school area...."please evacuate something, something fire," reads another post.

Civil Defence say the siren has not come from them, meaning there is no tsunami or any other natural disaster.

SunLive is working on getting information as to what the siren is.

As soon as we have more information, we will update this story.

Fire Alarm and Fire Siren

It would have been the fire alarm at Papamoa Primary that was going off early this morning which was followed by the fire siren at Papamoa Fire Station, which sounds like an air raid siren. The message that was heard from the fire alarm would have been "Evacuate the building using the nearest fire exit"
