Police are investigating reports of a robbery at a shop on Cameron Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says police can be seen outside Quality Food and Spices on Cameron Road, opposite Tauranga Primary.

"There is a large police presence outside Quality Food and Spices on Cameron Road, looks like something serious like an armed robbery," says the man who drove past the scene.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that police are investigating armed robbery reports and are trying to establish what has taken place.

It appears items have been knocked over as the offender fled the scene.

In the meantime, people are asked to avoid the scene if possible.

This is the second robbery in as many days, after two men - one armed with a machete - robbed the United Video Store on Fraser Street on Tuesday night.

It is also the third one in a week, after two offenders armed with a gun robbed the Lucky 7 on Maungatapu Road last Wednesday.

People with information about what has happened are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Gosh .. all these armed robberies - are they just a coincidence, or more frightening than that? At this rate, Tauranga will be known as the 'armed robbery city' of NZ. I feel really sorry for the shop attendants involved, such a nerve-racking experience! I hope these scum are dealt with severely by the justice system, because this is starting to get rather scary!

Time for proper Policing

This sort of thing is getting far too common place, and is no doubt at least partially a result of Police actively ignoring crime until it becomes violent or hits the media. Criminals are just left to keep re-offending with no consequences and of course they get increasingly bold/violent as their confidence of not being held accountable grows. Time to stop sweeping this under the carpet and believing the nonsense propaganda on prime time tv. You can't fix a problem you don't admit to.

Wow! The criminals...

Must feel like such heros... imagine how much money they could steal from a smallish grocery store? They must have got at least $73 and any change? I wonder if they are disappointed that most people pay by card these days? Maybe they didn't think of that? They don't seem to be real smart? I hope the shop staff weren't too traumatise and the CCTV is good quality...

I don't think United Video or Quality Food sell cigs so maybe tax on cigs is not the root cause of all these robberies eh? What is clear is that the perps are not scared one bit by the consequences of going before the so called Justice system. Feel sorry for the shopkeepers and Police who both have their hands tied behind their backs and are let down badly by the Courts and Government.

Lets get into these scumbags NOW - these lazy idiots who think they can live off the hard work of others - I'm all for locking them up and actually throwing away the key!

Is it just me, or does tauranga seem to hit above it's weight when it comes to armed robbery? There seem to be a large minority of bad people living here. The police/justice system gets accused of being racist when they bring these offenders to justice. Blame everything else except for the little crims!
