Police aim to nail hammer robbers

Police are investigating a robbery in Tauranga this afternoon.

Police were called to the Carlisle Street Convenience store in Greerton at 2pm.

Two men entered the store, one armed with a hammer.

They have threatened the staff member before fleeing on foot with an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes.

No one was injured in the incident. Enquiries are continuing.

"Police take incidents of this nature very seriously and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area this afternoon," say opolice.

hmm ... I find it very strange that we have had so many robberies involving weapons over the last few days - could it be that these are all somehow related? I hope the justice system hands down a harsh sentence when these low-lifes are caught, rather than just a slap on the wrist, like usual!
