Golden Sands School in Papamoa is closed this morning.
Power is out at the school, which means the toilets are non-operational.
'Our toilets will not operate without power and this creates a health and safety issue,” says message emailed to parents reads.
'We apologise for the short notice, this has only come to our attention very recently.”
The email was sent around 8.30am.
People with children at the school were asked to either keep their kids at home or collect them from the school as soon as possible.
'If your children have already arrived at school, we will look after them until you can collect them, but please be aware there are no toilet facilities operating.
'We apologise for the obvious inconvenience. We will keep you up to date with any progress. We are working with the relevant agencies to resolve this ASAP.”
The school will be closed for the full day.
"Our phones are also down. If your child is at school, we are supervising them. If you would like us to contact you to discuss pick up for your child, please email us and we will contact you."

...would it take to order some portaloos? It's amazing how technology has developed from the long drop to electric loos! The latter a backward step...bit of a shock.
