The heavy rain has caused a lot of surface flooding on some roads around the Coromandel.

There are reports of debris on roads, particularly from a slip at Ruamahunga Bay on SH25 (Thames Coast Road), but no roads are reported to have been closed.

The Thames Coromandel District Council says there is a lot of surface water on the Coast Road at Whakatete Bay, where gravel from driveways has also washed on to the road.

'We're advising drivers to be very cautious wherever they are driving on the Coromandel and to expect debris or water on roads around any corner.” The rain is expected to ease later today.

'Keep an eye on the NZ Transport Agency website for updates on state highway conditions.”
