Someone in Tauranga isn't a fan of Simon Bridges' face – or Bill English's, for that matter.
A National Party hoarding on Totara Street has been struck by some unusual vandalism over the weekend, with the faces of the Prime Minister and the local National MP cut out.
Simon says it's not the only hoarding of his that's been targeted.
'I've heard about being off your face, but this is ridiculous,” he laughs.
'It's clearly one person doing this, since there's a few hoardings it's happened to. But it just strengthens the resolve of my volunteers to get out and keep at it. We're not long to go and there's everything to fight for, not only locally but nationwide.”
He says election signs like his are important to give campaigns visibility and increase the profile of candidates.
Although he can't give a specific number, he says several of his signs have been damaged around the city.
'Saturday night in particular seems to be when damage happens. However, other than this peculiar face cutting exercise, it hasn't been too bad.”
He says ‘the mind boggles' to think what this person is doing with all the faces they're collecting.
'I hope they haven't got a shrine to Bill and me – we want people's votes, but we don't need that sort of attention.”
It's not known if similar vandalism has affected the hoardings of other political parties, which went up last month.

Faceless

I'm sure they will both want to remain faceless should they allow Foot and Mouth tainted mud into New Zealand. You would think that after the Psa debacle this government would at least err on the side of caution.
a better option

Faceless anti-democratic politicians in suits promising this and that but failing to deliver. That's why on every ballot paper should be the option "NONE OF THE ABOVE" which I am sure would win easily.
Bang on

Bridges is only interested in standing behind his leader like a nodding toy. His only contribution to Tauranga is to try and get the Council to waste my money on a Museum. Thanks Simon.

Someone clearly recognises that these polis are good for nothing and congrats on an amusing way to show the distaste. Put a sign up spouting B/S and you get what you deserve that's democracy I guess.

Agree with all comments, they are both faceless, and like the captain ,promise this and that, only if they get in, apart from this THEY DO NOT CARE,it wont be the only one to get damaged, it is a eye sore all these billboards, people oozing out of the woodwork with faces to join these clowns to get into council etc, my thoughts only on this subject, Guess who won top spot for news, SUNLIVE OF CAUSE, you are the BEST and No1 for News in the Bay,Thankyou, 10-4 out, phew.
