Police arrest Rollie Heke

Rollie Heke was arrested in the Bay of Plenty early this morning.

Police have arrested the man accused of shooting at police cars in Morrinsville earlier this month.

A nationwide hunt had been launched after Rollie Heke allegedly fired on police during a stop in Morrinsville on August 13.

In a statement released this morning, Superintendent Bruce Bird says police arrested Heke at an address in the Kaingaroa Forest township at about 1.30am.

'Heke was arrested without incident and without undue risk to the community.

'He will be held in custody to appear before in the Rotorua District Court this morning.”

When he appears in court, Heke will be facing charges in relation to outstanding warrants on methamphetamine related offending.

Further charges are likely, says Bruce.

Heke was wanted by police following a firearms incident in Morrinsville on August 13.

The investigation into that incident and Heke's movements since then is ongoing.

'The arrest this morning was as a result of high quality investigation work from police staff across the country.

'The safety of both Police staff and the public has been the priority throughout this operation.”

Police Commissioner Mike Bush would like to extend his congratulations to 'our staff for bringing this to a safe conclusion and for their relentless search for Heke”.

National campaigned in the previous elections...."Three strikes and you're out". Lots of hot air on law and order. How was this criminal not "out" despite a long long rap sheet? Do they mean; three strikes and they let you out?

CONGRATULATIONS
