The Mauao base track has been closed due to a slip and tree debris.

The slip, which occurred this morning, is blocking off the pathway on the Matakana side of the base track.

"We have closed the base track for the weekend and will assess properly on Monday," says Tauranga City Council team leader parks and environment Waren Aitken.

The base track will be closed all weekend, however, other tracks on Mauao remain open.

A few decades ago, the local tramping clubs would have had a working bee up there in a flash and cleaned the whole lot up before smoko time. Thanks to a previous Labour government's Rogernomics and restructuring, nobody is allowed to blink at it., lest there be an OSH "landslide"
