AOS training exercise in Tauranga

The Armed Offenders Squad have been training in a couple of areas in Tauranga today.

People who have spotted armed police around Tauranga can rest assured there is nothing to worry about.

SunLive has had a number of calls from people who have seen AOS members down at Sulphur Point Marina and Baypark.

One caller says she was coming out of the Nautilus Cafe when she encountered a couple of officers kitted out in full AOS gear.

SunLive has spoken with police, who confirm that today's movements are part of a training exercise.

"I can confirm this is part of a training exercise and they were in the Baypark area this morning for the same reason," says a police spokesperson.
