Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious crash, at the intersection commonly known as ‘the Crossing', on State Highway 36/Takitimu Drive, Tauranga.

Police were alerted to the motorbike crash at the roundabout with Lakes Boulevard at approximately 7:10pm tonight.

The male motorcyclist, who was driving a black, Japanese road bike, has been taken to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition.

Police are working to establish his identity and want to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash. People with information can contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and for that reason part of SH36 will be closed for a time.

Diversions are in place but the Lakes subdivision can be reached via Pyes Pa Road.

Police thank motorists in advance for their patience.
