Part of Maungatapu was cordoned off, Sunday night. Armed police officers were on scene.
Callers to SunLive report multiple Armed Offenders Squad officers are in the area around Wikitoria Street, at the north end of the peninsula off Maungatapu Road.
Police blocked the road access in the vicinity of the marae and rugby ground.
A SunLive photographer at the scene reported the on ramp to the expressway cordoned off, along with several residential blocks in the area.
