A good year for city CCO performances

The council controlled organisation annual reports show they are succeeding in attracting more people to events and council facilities in the city.

Bay Venues Limited (BVL) hosted a record number of almost two million visitors in 2016/17. BVL's 24 facilities, including community centres and halls, indoor sports facilities as well as ASB Arena and Stadium, were used for over 97,000 hours during the financial year.

ASB Baypark Stadium and ASB Arena both significantly exceeded their targets of six major events with 15 major events at ASB Baypark Stadium and 11 major events at ASB Arena.

Tauranga Art Gallery has seen the highest visitor numbers since the gallery opened 10 years ago with 86,610 visiting during the year. It was named one of the top seven art galleries in New Zealand by Culture Trip following the Paradox Inside exhibition with one of the largest collections of Banksy works on display. The exhibition is also nominated for ‘Event of the Year'.

Paradox Inside as part of Paradox: Tauranga Street Art Festival organised by Tauranga City Council in collaboration with Oi YOU! and Tauranga Art Gallery, received 49,185 visitors in three months.

The gallery's art education programmes attracted the highest number of young people to have ever taken part with 10,949 participants. Over the course of the financial year, the gallery delivered 16 exhibitions that covered a broad range of genres and subjects: Buddhist medicine mandala, wildflower garden project, street art, Miles Art Awards, historical painting, Maori ceramics etc.

Tourism Bay of Plenty has seen a 16.9 per cent growth in visitor numbers in 2016/17. International visitor numbers grew by 23.6 per cent. A further focus has been on increasing shoulder and off-peak visitor spend. In 2016/17 the monthly average shoulder and off-peak spend (July to November 2016 and March to June 2017) exceeded targets and has seen a 41 per cent increase up to $69m.

Bay of Plenty Local Authority Shared Services Ltd achieved all targets in the statement of intent with a number of new inter-regional collaborative services established across councils. Additionally, 15 new local government organisations joined the BOPLASS collaboration portal in 2016/17, bringing it up to a membership of 40 councils. With 59 organisations in total and 516 users, the portal supports increased visibility of opportunities for councils to collaborate.

'The four annual reports summarise the performance of each organisation against objectives previously set in the Statement of Intent, says Audit finance Risk and Monitoring Committee chair Gail McIntosh.

'These are developed collaboratively between Council and the CCO boards and outline each organisation's vision and what it will focus on.

”The CCOs' annual reports address how each organisation successfully supports Tauranga in becoming an internationally competitive city that aims to provide a higher standard of living for all.”

should have a small admission fee. $2 per person would help out a lot.

Wonders of CCo reporting?

Posted on 26-09-2017 16:00 | By MISS ADVENTURE

They decide the list of boxes to tick and then they tick the boxes. When done that then means they all get a slap on the back and lots of self hand shaking and more back slapping on the wonders of it all. Then Council, lors rubber stamp even more money to be thrown endlessly at it all and wow more staff and more bills rack up endlessly. This in CCO TCC wonderland is called "Surplus" or succeeding or meeting targets or budgets. What is really means for TCC ratepayers is that the bills increased, rates increase and likey will continue to do so.

successfully supports Tauranga?

This is apparently done by eploying more officals to run around in ever decreasing circles? Teh costs to ratepayers is measured in many millions added to rates every year. This is not "support" it is actually self indulgent leech-like behaviour simply satisfying self interest and greed to self propagate. They is no benefit to the wider community and especially thise slugged with the $14-17 million bills annually all for the fantasies and dreams of a few.

Don't believe it

If Tourism Bay of Plenty want us to believe the figures quoted here then they should have no hesitation in producing them as proof of this apparently fantastic result against all the trends that the tourism industry in the Bay of Plenty are actually experiencing in the real world. We look forward to an in depth published detailed report to back up this almost unbelievable result.

Art gallery magical numbers

Posted on 27-09-2017 21:01 | By MISS ADVENTURE

86,610 in a year WOW, TUI ADVERT. That works out to be 50 an hour for each hour that they each have the doors opened. These numbers are completely unbelievable. Perhaps a door charge of $11 a head minimum needs to be put in place, then see how many come in the door. If they still are drifting by then the TCC ratepayer will then be releaved on the burden annual of some $850,000 unnecessary cost.

A $2 door charge would only generate $172,220, that would barely pay 20% of the total and horrific bills that pile up annually. The door charge needs to be atleast $10/head to get $861,610 and even that is not enough to pay the bills, close but no cigar. That likely result of $10/head is that virtually no one would been seen near the place and the coffee costs would virtually dissapear also. End result the truth would be revealed ... no one goes! It s a dead-beat dead loss outfit and the only thing they are any good at is spin-doctoring a yarn about how wonderful they are at what they dont achieve or do ...

Misadventure is an amazing relic

with you Miss Adventure that the Art Gallery should be self funding at $10. But as thats not likely to happen a small fee should be introduced. I like the arts, although much of what I see in our gallery doesn't spin my wheels much. My birthplace Wanganui has an amazing Art Gallery.
