Cruise ship road closure dates

Cruise ship visits to Mount Maunganui are now being treated the same as major sporting events with the Tauranga City Council announcing a number of road closures along Salisbury Avenue and The Mall.

Between November 2017 and February 2018 there will be a number of particularly large cruise ships visiting Tauranga.

The closures are to reduce congestion and enable passengers to safely disembark, during the visits of a number of particularly large passenger ships visiting over the summer peak.

The corner of Salisbury Ave and The Mall from Victoria Road on Salisbury Ave to Prince Ave on The Mall, will be clear of traffic at set times.

Traffic coming down Salisbury Ave will be diverted into Victoria Road and Prince Ave to The Mall. Residents within the diverted area will not be excluded from entering or exiting their properties, nor will service vehicles or emergency services.

The road closures and diversion will be in place on the following days:

Why they should be using the port gate, there is plenty of room on the port, TCC idiots once again

How considerate

Nice of the council to make it safer for cruise passengers to board buses taking them and their dollars out of the area. And another two fingered salute from the TCC to all Mount residents with additional road closures - amalgamation for Mt Maunganui has been about as successful as the Supercity (sic) has been for Auckland.

As nice as the mount beach is the tourist are coming for Rotorua and Hobiton, because they have heard of those overseas. They haven't heard of the mount. Get over it.

Clarity for the Capt_Kaveman and an option!

The Port is a 'working port' seven days a week and coupled with the construction of new kiwifruit storage shed adjacent the cruise ship berth to the north it is somewhat of a challenge to manage safely. A limited number coaches access the Port and collect passengers direct from the ship(s). That aside, I reject the road closures as an unnecessary intrusion given the option to create safer more accessible one-way access utilizing the port side of Coronation Park with an entry from Nikau Crescent.

Mayhem

Really is that the best option. I have been over there when the roads are closed for triathlons, its nuts.

This is unbelievable.

So now more inconvenience for Mount residents and locals. These closures are unnecessary and only serve to impede us from enjoying our own location. The article should identify the TCC Official(s) who came up with this brainwave. Mount Maunganui is hard enough to get around in summer with all of the Tourists causing congestion and now these clowns are adding to it by closing more roads.
