Jailed for accidentally shooting friend

A woman who accidentally shot a friend has been sentenced to three years and one month in jail.

The 23-year-old was arrested and charged with manslaughter following the fatal shooting at a Hamilton address on May 30.

The victim, Rhys Williamson, is said to have been handing the woman a gun when it discharged and he was shot.

Tiffani Sutcliffe asked Mr Williamson whether the gun was loaded but before he could answer she pulled the trigger, reports RNZ.

In the High Court in Hamilton Justice Whata described it as a one off act of recklessness carried out when she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
