A man is being treated for "critical injuries" in Tauranga Hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances in which the man was dropped off in a critical conditon at 12.20pm today.

A police spokesperson says they are investigating the possible origin of a vehicle that is alleged to have dropped the injured person off at the Tauranga Hospital emergency department.

"We are working to establish how he sustained the injuries."
