UPDATED 12.15PM -

A minor crash is believed to be the cause of a medical event in Mount Maunganui this morning.

A police media spokesperson says the incident happened at about 11.30am.

"Police were advised by ambulance that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian on Halesia Place.

"On arrival it was determined it was in fact a car colliding with another car, rather than a pedestrian."

Police say one person was initially thought to be unresponsive, however their current status is not known.

EARLIER:

Emergency services are in attendance of an incident at a residential address in Mount Maunganui.

A reporter at the scene says the incident has happened on Halisea Place.

"A police officer at the scene has explained this as a 'medical event'.

"There are two police cars at the scene, with one leaving and there is also ambulance staff treating someone."
