A person has been found dead at Sulphur Point in Rotorua.
A body was located in the Hatupatu Drive area, a police spokesperson says.
Police were called to the area about 2.20pm.
Sulphur point is a geothermal area on the shores of Lake Rotorua boasting a number of mud pools.
A walking track connects it to nearby tourist attractions such as the Polynesian Pools, Government Gardens and Rotorua Museum.
Police had been in attendance earlier in a day but there was no police presence this afternoon when Stuff visited the scene.
