Olympic fever hit Tauranga today with a visit from Black Sticks striker Gemma Flynn to promote the game to young players.
Tauranga born-and-bred Gemma is a highly regarded player, who has been twice named in the World All Stars team (2009 and 2011) alongside top players from around the globe.
Black Sticks attacker Gemma Flynn stirs up Olympic hockey fever when she visits Tauranga today.
Gemma will be sharing tips on the game, answering question and signing autographs for pupils in two sessions this afternoon. She is a strong player both as a striker and in the midfield and will be playing at her second Olympics in London, after playing in Beijing in 2008.
Along with playing for the national team, she plays for Midlands in the National Hockey League. Her visit is part of a series of visits to all 13 hockey associations throughout the country over the next three days.
Her first session took place at Tauranga Intermediate School from 12.30-2pm, followed by a session at the Tauranga Hockey Centre, Blake Park (Mount Maunganui) from 3.30-5pm. Anyone interested can attend.
The Black Sticks Men's Olympic team will be announced on Tuesday, and the women's team on Friday.
