Police respond to firearms incident, Taupō

Police are speaking with the person and verified no firearm was involved, says a police spokesperson.

"Cordons are being stood down and the lockdown lifted in the Acacia Bay area.

"Police would like to thank the community for responding to Police instructions and their patience and understanding while we resolved the situation."

Taupō Police are responding to a report of a person with a firearm on Acacia Bay Road, Nukuhau.

"A nearby school has been asked to lockdown as a precaution," says a police spokesperson.

"Cordons are in place blocking the road at Acacia Bay Road and Norman Smith Street and the public is asked to avoid the area while police work to resolve the situation safely."
