Police investigating a suspicious car fire on Otumoetai Road are asking the three people who videoed blaze to come forward.
Tauranga firefighters were called to the fire, understood to be an arson attack, near Glenn Terrace about 4.30am yesterday after neighbours nearby reported the Nissan sedan on fire.
A suspicious car fire was videoed by three people on Otumoetai Road.
Tauranga Detective Helen Beck says police have had one development in the investigation.
'We now know a car pulled up alongside the burning vehicle and recorded it before the fire brigade arrived.
'There were three people inside. We don't have a description of the vehicle, or the people, but we are asking them to contact Tauranga Police.”
Helen says an inspection of the burnt car points to it being deliberately lit.
Tauranga Fire Brigade senior station officer Mark Keller earlier told SunLive that firefighters were able to save the bulk of the car from extensive damage.
'It was just starting to spread through the car when we arrived. We were there for about half an hour.”
Anyone with information about the blaze is asked to contact Detective Helen Beck at Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
