Crosby still Mayor of Tauranga

Stuart Crosby looks set to return to the Mayor's seat on Monday morning as progress results for Tauranga City Council put him as having 10,135 votes.

Kelvin Clout is currently in second place with 9547 votes, while Mike Baker has 3339 votes.

Stuart Crosby will be back in the Mayor's seat on Monday.

John Robson has 3160 votes, Richard Moore has 2776 and Hori Leaming has 757.

Only hand delivered votes were accepted this morning up until 12pm, with predictions of the total amount of people likely to vote around the 40 per cent mark.

Votes cast up to the end of Thursday had reached 32 per cent of the nearly 85,000 voting packs sent out.

In the 2010 local elections, 43.64 per cent of people eligible to vote actually did. This is a decrease from the 46.36 per cent of people who voted in the 2007 elections.

There was a last minute surge of people handing their voting papers into Tauranga City Council offices this morning.

Stuart officially assumed office on October 9, 2004 and has been re-elected to mayor and has served two terms.

Stuart is the 28th Mayor of Tauranga City after taking over from Jan Beange in 2004.

Progress results for council and wards are below:

Improved services?...debt..??

Sad news today, we have re-elected someone who believes that Council services are improved and is "comfortable" with the City's debt..why did we do this Tauranga?...:(

Stuart take note

Well if proof was required that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with how council was run it is here. Stuart Crosby has always said he can work with anyone, well here is his chance to prove it as team Crosby's followers and yes men appear to be gone.

Overit

Roughly only 600 votes in it. Kevin as a new comer has done very well. Surely this must tell Stuart something. All very interesting results, now lets hope they can get down to BUSINESS.

At Long Last

Commonsense seems to have prevailed based on the provisional votes. The voters (hopefully on final results) have eliminated 7 of the existing councilors and Crosby.s majority being wittled away. No more Old Boys network and old farts past their use by date. Here,s to a fresh approach.

Oh No!!!

Gutted that Crosby is going to be Mayor again. All he is interested in doing is spending/wasting rate payers money and putting the city in further debt. I agree with the above comment about needing new and fresh people in council seats.

apathy

Crosby will have us over a billion dollars in debt come the next election. That's apathy for ya!

TAKE HEED OF THE IMPLICIT MESSAGE IN YOUR SLIM MAJORITY, MR CROSBY. Life will not be the same. As for some councillors, there is a comparison with horticulture - good pruning of fruit trees cuts out the old dead wood and the fruit becomes more abundant... Congratulations to Kevin Clout!

WOW!

What a turn a around maybe Stuart will understand the people of Tauranga have had enough of hollow promises and blinded vision.Seven out of ten new councilors and a greatly reduced majority, congratulations to new members.

Not

quite the clean out i was hoping for but still atleast some have gone but sad on a few that did get get in, some should have got more votes.

Good to see

some of the lemons have gone Disappointing that a few have managed to hang on Hopefully they have got the message but I doubt it

Great Stuff

Now we have to see how this reconstituted council will perform. Crosby could have a fight on his hands this term. He hasn't made it by much and when final votes are in it could be even closer. I doubt if there will be drinks all around at the Crosby household tonight. Very pleasing to see the existing two Mount/Papamoa councillors replaced. Three women on council now which hopefully is a good omen.

Really sorry

Posted on 12-10-2013 16:38 | By nerak

we don't have a new mayor, nevertheless a great tip out. Congratulations to the newly elected councillors, pinning hopes on you holding true to election promises! To be hopeful, Crosby will have to change tack now...

DEPUTY MAYOR?

Posted on 12-10-2013 16:40 | By FunandGames

this will be interesting to see, also to see how Crosby handles some meaningful debate over a rubber stamp for his views.

Congratulations

to the new councillors. This is your opportunity to make a real difference now so much old wood is gone. Big congrats to Kelvin for the strong fight.

Crosby still Mayor of Tauranga

Posted on 12-10-2013 16:55 | By algail

Crosby back What can you expect when only 40% of the electorate get off their backsides and vote. It is a great shame for Tauranga that Crosby was not kicked out. What we can hope for now is that the newly elected members will rein him in and stop the council largesse that is close to crippling Tauranga Alastair Bourne

Great to see 2 intelligent women on Council

Pity there weren't three or four more changes but that's democracy. One thing its shown me is that you don't have to be bright to be re-elected to Council, well in my opinion anyway.

Many Commentors Have forgotten

Crosby may be re elected but he has not got it all his own way. To the new comers listen to the people, sort and explain why if it seems some do not understand.

Debt down

No more big spend ups Stuart. Lets hope you have got the message. Sell Baypark and Baywave for starters ??

Before people get too excited

There are still several councillors left including one who says he puts in less hours. But hey he does a great campaign. Among the new councillors I think we have some sort of policy analyst, real estate agent, bar owner, businessman, accountant etc. I wish them all congratulations and a successful effort in getting Council on track.

Theodorus

Here it is a new City Council.Hopefully they make a better job of it than the last lot and get rid of our huge debt and a reduction in rates!

Next time?

Posted on 13-10-2013 08:25 | By groutby

Kelvin, a great result for you, sad that there isn't just over 600 more sensible people here..........but...keep Stuart in line, do what's right for our city with no "personal agenda" or bias toward certain groups, and you'll be Mayor next time around !

All New Councillors

Papaknowa

Seems that Papamoa residents gave a real message in this election. Well done Papamoa. Lets never be forgotten and neglected by Council again.

I'm saddened that crosby is still there. I just don't believe he does a good job and why would people vote for someone who increased debt to 450 odd million dollars? Someone dropped a very handy pamphlet in our mailbox pre-election which helped me vote for some new people . I mainly voted against greenies, long term bureaucrats (on the basis of poor job to date), those with social science backgrounds, and treaty supporters. There were barely enough candidates left after eliminating the above.
