Truck fire on Lower Kaimai Ranges

UPDATE 10.30AM: Police are still diverting motorists around a truck destroyed by fire on the Lower Kaimai Ranges today.

Greerton firefighters were called to the fire in a Isuzu truck on the Tauranga-bound lane of State Highway 29 about 9.10am.

Greerton firefighters put out a truck fire on State Highway 29 on the Lower Kaimai Ranges.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jarron Philips says Greerton Fire Brigade are still at the scene of the fire, between McLaren Falls Road and Thorn Road.

'It's an empty truck that is pulled over to the side with its hazard lights. But it's causing a few traffic problems so police are being called,” says Jarron.

The driver of the Green Fingers Co truck told a reporter at the scene that he was driving along when the truck began overheating and he smelled smoke.

He pulled over in the lane before fire destroyed the front of the vehicle. The truck was empty at the time.

Motorists are asked to drive with care.
