Crash on Concord Ave

UPDATED 3.30PM: When Concord Avenue resident Wade Martin heard a loud smash outside his home this afternoon, he ran out to find two cars collided and the driver of one seizing in the front seat.

Wade was the first person on the scene of the accident at 3pm, in which a black Mitsubishi has crashed into a parked van, pushing it 15-20 metres along the road.


The scene at Concord Ave this afternoon.

He ran to the driver's side of the Mitsubishi to see the sole occupant, a man in his 30s, seizing at the wheel.

'His eyes were rolled into the back of his head and his mouth was foaming.”

The car was also smoking, so Wade ran back inside, returning with a fire extinguisher to calm the smoke before calling emergency services.

Police, fire fighters and St John paramedics responded to the incident, near the street's intersection with Crane Street, Mount Maunganui.

A reporter at the scene says the driver has been taken to Tauranga Hospital via ambulance, and police remain at the scene.

There is significant damage to both vehicles, which will be towed away from the scene.

The owners of the van are shaken by the events, but say the van is insured.

Emergency services are at the scene of a crash in Mount Maunganui where a moving vehicle is believed to have crashed into a parked car.

Nobody appears to be injured, but a medical condition is believed to be the cause, and there is extensive damage to one vehicle.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders says police are at the scene on Concord Ave, after the crash occured about 3pm.

'I believe a car has crashed into another vehicle for whatever reason. That is all I have at the moment.” Northern Fire Communications shift manager Scott Osmond says firefighters were called to the scene after reports one car was on fire.

There was no fire and firefighters have been stood down, he says.

'From what I understand it sounds like someone has suffered a medical condition.”

A bus of Mount Intermediate kids on there way home to Papamoa seen this accident. I was informed of a man in a black car with his setbelt on looking dead. We are so happy he is ok. All the best to him

To close down the "Rat Runs" employed by the impatient motorists that don't want to queue up to use the Bayfair roundabout. It has been done in other places around town (Only allowing traffic to proceed along in the direction of the flow of traffic) So why not here?
