New lead in bank robbery case

Police are closing in on a man suspected of robbing ANZ bank in Greerton on Thursday October 9.

A man wearing a blue beanie and dark sunglasses walked into the bank at about 2.30pm and handed a teller a note demanding cash.

The teller complied and the offender made off with an unknown amount of money.

Speaking with SunLive this afternoon, Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier says they have a positive lead, which investigating officers are chasing down.

'We are still asking for information from the public,” he says.

People who saw anything suspicious around the time of the robbery, and haven't already spoken with police, are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station.

Darryl says the suspected bank robbery left the bank and police believe he got into a waiting car, described as a dark grey Nissan Pulsar, registration XD 2541.

The vehicle had been stolen from Te Awamutu earlier in the day and was recovered in Rotorua the day after the robbery.

Offender descriptions:

The man from inside the bank is described as a Caucasian, or light skinned Maori or Pacific Islander in his mid-to-late 20s.

He was last seen wearing a blue beanie, oversized dark sunglasses, a light coloured t-shirt, dark coloured shorts and fingerless gloves.

The driver of the Nissan is described as a man, either Maori or Pacific Islander, aged 20 to 30-years-old, of medium build and with short dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark coloured sleeveless top, sunglasses and dark coloured 'cargo style' shorts.

I so hope he is found, not on to terrorise people to steal, those poor bank staff, so feel for them, the money will be long gone though.
