Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval is a hive of excitement this afternoon with cricket fans cheering as the SkyCity Northern Knights take on the Otago Volts.

Gates opened for New Zealand's domestic one-day competition at Blake Park at 12pm.

Northern knights are batting first and after 33 overs are 171/4.

Northern Knights' and Black Cap Dean Brownlie was bowled for 66 and teammate Daryl Mitchell is still there on 30. Bowling, Otago's Jacob Duffy has 3 for 23.

Tickets to the game are on sale at the gate and cost $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and kids are free.
